Gary Winogrand
In 1948 Gary Winogrand ditched painting and never looked back, he was introduced to the 24 hour dark room and from then on was a photographer. In his life he published four books of his photographs, and left behind more then 2,500 undeveloped rolls of film. He shot with a small-format 35mm camera which gave him the power to capture the little unforgettable moments that has made him famous. He died in 1984.
I really liked his work, just like weegee it is raw and priceless. He captured simple moments that needed to be remembered. He was quick and precise and very talented. I love that he wanted to capture the out of the ordinary moments. His work Women are Beautiful shows his undying love for the opposite sex and captured the fight women went through and their unique beauty.
Lucas Samaras
Lucas Samaras was born in Greece immigrated to the United States in 1948. He was a sculptor and experimental artist. In 1959 he was started to create figures out of plaster and rags. In the 1960’s, Samaras began using nails and pins to construct his sculptures. Samaras’s most famous works were a part of his 1970 series of Autopolaroids, photographs of his own anatomy.
I do not personally like his work, it is a bit out there for my tastes. He was a very creative artist I just did not find his photographs or art very appealing.
WEEGEE
Weegee’s real name is Author Fellig. He was a night photographer and captured the raw truth. At 18 he left home. He started working at Acme Newpictures darkroom when he was 24 he began his route to his career in photography. Weegee left a legacy of 5,000 negatives and some 15,000 prints behind. He guessed that he had photographed 5,000 murders. He appeared in Hollywood films as bums, and a photographer. In 1958 the movie Dr. Strangelove was based on Weegee. He developed the name Weegee because people considered him a Ouija board. It was as if he could tell the future because he was always the first to arrive and the seen and usually the last to leave. His work captured the attention of millions. His ability to capture the expression of a young child’s face after seeing it’s first murder or being able to take a picture of a dead human being is truly incredible. A man with no art back ground or understanding of the history of art or photography has inspired millions and eventually came to be known as Weegee the Famous. Weegee died December 26, 1968 of a brain tumor.
I love his work, the raw and truth behind each image is amazing and truly incredible. I love taking pictures at night so when I cam across Weegee and his work I fell in love.
